From my experience, you can’t wait around to find what you love. You gotta work your ass off. And then you find what you love by doing piles and piles of work.

You should start projects because you feel like you are going to either explode, or vomit, or both. You’ve gotta have that kind of burning desire in your stomach to do it.

The very first CreativeMornings/Portland hosted the absolutely wonderful Kate Bingaman Burt.
Kate brings to life the idea of Automated Directives in projects, establishing rules to guide creativity, through her lovely work from drawing all of her credit card statements until the debt was paid to whimsical drawings of her daily purchases. She offers up her story, process, tips and the work of others, encouraging us to get out there and make.
The event was generously hosted by Ziba and sponsored by Scout Books and Museum of Contemporary Craft. Many thanks to Paul Searle for shooting and editing this video.
We’re in love with these special edition CreativeMornings Scout Books illustrated by the chapter’s first speaker, Kate Bingaman Burt, given out at the Portland launch last month.
Special thanks to our amazing Portland host Tsilli Pines!
